This a newssite. It is not a social media web site. It exists to augment the news reports of Global and Western News Bureau a specialized news bureau set up in 1993 in London, now Exeter. Both Global and this site publish under the most rigid privilege covering written material in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and the EU. The basis of the facts stated are court judgments. recorded on the UK, EU and applicable law in those jurisdictions. Where comment or inference is added, it is there to, make the judgments coherent to lay people, who constitute 99% of the EU population. This will be stated.
About me (a brief history)
Journalism
I became a full-time journalist in 1979. Starting with Computer Weekly as International and Finance Editor, then going on to Computer News as Deputy Editor. I was associated with various other computer magazines including Nikkei Computer and Asia Computer Monthly. In 1988, I moved to work on the Sunday Times Rich List with Dr Philip Beresford and stayed at the Sunday Times in various capacities, including a major stint on Insight, until 1990. I have written for the New Statesman and Country Life, have appeared on Despatches for Channel 4, and am Bureau Chief at the Global & Western News Bureau in Exeter, Devon.
Politics
I was a part-time Research Assistant to Paddy Ashdown in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. I also worked for the Chairman of the Parliamentary All Party Human Rights Committee in the House of Lords. I was a special advisor to Professor the Lord Laird of Artigarvan in the House of Lords.
I have advised many politicians including:
- Hon Richard Burke former European Commission Vice President
- Gordon Brown on offshore taxation in 1993
- Robin Cook on the Scott Inquiry in 1995.
